Can I use my parent's insurance?

Yes, if you are currently eligible under their plan.

Will my parents find out?

With various insurance carriers, an explanation of benefits is sent to the subscriber by mail or by electronic services. We cannot guarentee your confidentiality in regard to your health insurance’s practices. We recommend that the patient contact their insurance company to discuss their policy on abortion confidentiality.

Does my boyfriend’s insurance cover my services?

Most of the time a boyfriend’s insurance does not cover services for the patient. However, if you are listed under his policy or are a domestic partner under the plan, it is possible that the services may be covered.

Does my partner need to know?

We do not notify your partner of the services you are rendering. However, if you are using health insurance that has your partner listed on the policy to pay for services, it is possible that your partner may have access to the information from your insurance compnay. We recommend that the patient contact their insurance company to discuss their policy on abortion confidentiality.

How much does it cost to have an abortion?

Are you a free clinic?

We offer free pregnancy tests at all locations. Our Southside location offers free ultrasounds as well. Though Family Planning Associates does offer affordable abortion and family planning services, abortion services are not free of charge entirely.

If I have no money can you help me get a free abortion?

Family Planning Associates offers discounted fees when a patient is uninsured or has public aid. We do accept outside funding assistance if the patient qualifies. However, we do not provide free abortion services.

What should I do if my insurance information changes?

You are responsible to notify us of any insurance changes. When you arrive we will ask to see your insurance card and your photo identification at the reception area.

What if my insurance requires a referral?

If your insurance group requires a referral, it is your responsibility to contact your primary care physician or insurance company prior to your visit with Family Planning Associates. If you do not have an authorized referral at the time of services, we will not be able to accept your insurance coverage.

Why are you asking me to pay my deductible or coinsurance at my appointment time?

When we verify your eligibility and benefits, we ask your insurance company what your coverage is. If you have a deductible or co-insurance, you must pay that amount on the day of service.

Why are you asking for my health insurance information prior to coming in?

When you schedule an appointment for an abortion services or a gynecolgical service we will ask that you provide us with your insurance information. We do this as a courtesy to our patients. We are able to verify coverage and respond to you before the time you come in for services so you may be prepared.

Why didn’t my insurance company pay for services rendered?

We are misquoted benefits on a rare occasion from an insurance carrier. Sometimes your coverage has ended or your policy doesn’t cover elective procedures. In these cases, we may ask for a reduced balance, typically the uninsured rate.
